Waynedale is a community in the southwest quadrant of Fort Wayne, Indiana in Allen County. The community was founded in 1921 by Abner Elzey, a Methodist preacher from Ossian.[1] Residents signed petitions in 1957 requesting annexation by the City of Fort Wayne. Subsequent to the submission of the petitions to the City, Waynedale and its estimated 6,000 residents were annexed into the Fort Wayne city limits.
In October 2010, Waynedale announced its first community website http://waynedale.com to promote positive business and residential improvement.[2]
Waynedale is home to The Waynedale News, which is printed on a bi-weekly basis and hand delivered by carriers, door to door covering over 12,000 households and businesses of South and Southwest Fort Wayne.[3]
The mayor of Waynedale is John Farris.City Councilman Mitch Harper serves Waynedale on Fort Wayne Common Council. Waynedale is included in the Council's Fourth District.
